SANTA CLARITA VALLEY DEMOCRATS CONDEMN INCLUSION OF “TRIPLE THREAT” FLAG IN REPUBLICANS OF SANTA CLARITA FOURTH OF JULY PARADE
The Santa Clarita Valley Democrats strongly condemn the display of a banner that blended the Confederate battle flag, Gadsden flag, and United States flag — a combination that is also referred to as the “triple threat” flag — in the Republicans of Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade.
“The Fourth of July is a celebration of our nation’s independence, not a celebration of our nation’s enemies who fought to continue the horrific practice of chattel slavery,” said Andrew Taban, Chair of the Santa Clarita Valley Democrats. “The repeated appearance of extremist symbols such as the Confederate battle flag at Republican events only shows that what they are really advocating for and celebrating is freedom for the very few, not freedom for all.”
A “triple threat” flag was displayed on a truck that participated in the Republicans of Santa Clarita Fourth of July Parade on Sunday.
“If an individual attempted to display deeply offensive symbol such as the flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at a Democratic event, we would ensure they did not do so and condemn such an action, as many leaders of both parties have done time and time again,” said Mai Nguyen Do, a board member of the Santa Clarita Valley Democrats. “While I would hope the Republican elected officials who participated in the parade didn’t know about the ‘triple threat’ flag being displayed, it’s now on them to clearly dissociate themselves from the flag — or continue to silently oblige the display of such an abhorrent symbol.”
The Santa Clarita Valley Democrats is an organization chartered with the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. SCVD is dedicated to connecting neighbors, supporting Democratic leadership, and serving the communities of the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas.
