Dear SCVD friends, family, and community,

The Executive Board of the Santa Clarita Valley Democrats would like to express our deepest gratitude for your participation in the 2021 gubernatorial special election. It is through the hard work of passionate community members that we now witness the defeat of the anti-democratic effort to recall Governor Gavin Newsom.

Voters have clearly repudiated the Republican Party’s blatant, costly misuse of the recall process in an attempt to elect an extremist with only a small minority of the vote. In voting against the recall, our fellow Californians voted to reject the GOP’s abuse of the recall process, to continue on our path towards equitable recovery and to build upon the progress we’ve made.

“This outcome was only made possible through the efforts of community members across the state and here in our own valley who worked tirelessly to defend the Governor’s office from being taken over by a far-right extremist,” said Andrew Taban, Chair of the Santa Clarita Valley Democrats. “Still, our work is far from over, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Governor’s office to help our communities survive this pandemic and thrive long after.”

We congratulate the Governor for fending off the GOP’s attempted power grab, and we are eager to continue the work of building a better future for all Californians — including our neighbors right here in the Santa Clarita Valley.

In solidarity,

Andrew Taban, Chair
Jackie Thomas, Vice Chair
Mai Nguyen Do, Board Member
Brett Haddock, Board Member
Gina Kaufman, Board Member
Rachelle Lyman, Board Member
Kat Walker, Board Member
